Re: Kleptocracy

"We must keep our government strong and just..." That's something I would most strongly agree with. Unfortunately I fear for justice in my country (UK), as we seem to follow the path forged by the US. It's very clear and obvious justice has slid into a wealth based system on that side of t...

Re: Humbug

Do you not use it to denote a stripy mint in the US?

To humbug someone is to inflict trumpery upon them.

Re: Furbelow

"Susie sashayed into the daaance hall a-flouncin' her furbelow, mesmerizing the men folks and infuriating the women folks."

That sounded a little more risque than I think you meant it to :D

Re: Riddance

We can't really say good riddance to our ranivorous friends across the English Channel, as they are ejected from the Euros. They provided excellent entertainment but their individual brilliance was not equivalent - in the end - to the Swiss team. Yesterday definitely showed why football (soccer) is ...

Re: Hagiography

Great scene George, always remembered that fondly! For myself, I feel a saint should have their own sense of morality, not be after reward after life. I prefer to reject ALL fairy tales, rather than choosing one to bestow with meaning. Sadio Mane is definitely a jolly decent sort for instance. https...

Re: Nerd

Some place here in town which sells computers, has its
repair crew called the "Geek Squad", and the trucks they
travel in have it in large letters on their sides.
Us real geeks are somewhat unimpressed by these squads' knowledge, when we find the need to employ them ;-)

Re: Entourage

As much as I hate to disagree, the NEW use of posse is, as far as I can see, indistinguishable from the old use of entourage when referring to a group of groupies following the star. Is it time to "get with the program"? I think not, but at least I can understand what is being said. I'm n...

Re: Entourage

For me an entourage always pertains to or follows a particular individual. A posse may be assembled with a leader, but the leader would always be leading them for a purpose, rather than them attending to his / her needs.

Lol I assumed it was the dodginess of the word itself. I think we can assume that if the mob had got hold of Mike Pence or AOC, we'd have seen some even more unpleasant footage than that which we did see...

Re: Lukewarm

Unlukelee I think as you say. According to this link: https://www.wonderopolis.org/wonder/how-hot-is-lukewarm "Lukewarm actually comes from the Middle English word lukewarme. It was a combination of “luke" and “warm," and the “luke" part was an alteration of the Middle English wo...
