Originally a coarse brown cloth covering a desk, burel. From Latin for either red or wool. Since offices were filled with desks, bureau became associated with government agencies. The chest of drawers Meaning appears to be American English only usage. In French, a bureau is office and in German Büro.

I like this word. Not much on it. This from Webster: Latin uliginosus, from uligin-, uligo moisture, marshiness, from udus, uvidus damp, moist.

Did any Latin daughters adopt this word?

Since 2017, Washington has become more uliginous.

Eschew obfuscation. I was perplexed why we use The word vaccine, which comes from vacca, meaning cow in Latin, when as I erroneously recalled bos is the word for cow in Latin, thus bovine. Faulty memory, bos in Latin is ox in English.

I hadn’t bothered, until now, to examine if regimen and regiment are related. They are. From Latin, regere, to rule. A regimen is a course of diet or exercise for the sake of health. We can easily see how an army regiment required rules and discipline.
