The word can also mean small hillock or defensive mound I believe in the UK. I used to go egg rolling down the tump in my aunt and uncles village

Thank you for this! I was thinking though, what is the difference between grateful and thankful? Are they complete synonyms or are they slightly different? My innate sense tells m they are different but I can't define how. Any thoughts?

Hmmm I'm British and I've never really heard or used "knock up" in the sense of waking someone up. Getting someone pregnant, yes...rubbers are condoms not shoes - never heard shoes called rubbers. Erasers we call rubbers, yes...

Does this at all possibly have any relation to hysteria and the relation to female reactions (hysterectomy because women were considered to be emotional because of their wombs)
