Recto/Verso

The right hand page of a book is recto with verso being the page to the left. Both are great words but even after looking and tooting in various places I haven't got a clue where their roots began.

Thanks for the reply.

When you mentioned Hippos it brought to mind something which I had read recently, The word is 'hippophobia' which apparently is a fear of horses, intriguing or what????? :? :)

Just a query about punctuation.

Could someone please confirm whether a comma is needed before or after a conjunction,I was always taught that no comma is required at either time but recently I have noticed newspapers and other texts doing just that. Is my understanding wrong? :?

Well if that is the context that it was meant well then I take it back and an apology is in order. Maybe it's just my mind playing tricks and a simple case of paranoia developing.

Brazilian dude,I respect you for stating your opinion but would respect you even more if you would be so kind as to give an explanation for your reasons. I am not beyond critisism. As I have previously explained I am not and would never even try to be Mrs know-it-all although I do have a certain adm...

Punctilious

What a wonderful word!

I must admit that I myself could be described as being punctilio, meaning that I have a habit of being formal, fussy, pedantic and pernickerty............,much to the annoyance of some people.

Yes it is an interesting word,it's funny though because only the other day I was reading a list that named all the phobias and came across 'tricophobia',upon reading this I began to wonder what relevance the prefix 'Trico' could possibly have to hair!!!! :)

While or whilst?

Which word is correct? Does it depend on context? Or is it a case of choice?
