I've found another sign!

Sitting at the counter of a Waffle House cafe I noticed a sign on the wall that read: Shirts and shoes must be worn to be served First, is this a warning to shirts and shoes that they must be in shabby shape to get service? Or Second, is this a warning to customers that their shirts and shoes must b...

Re: Dinner/Tea/Supper

I am from Scotland For meals we can have Breakfast, Elevenses, Lunch, Afternoon Tea, High Tea, Dinner and Supper. But a lot depends on the area you live in, and the class you belonged to. If you were really High-falluting (posh) Lunch was called Luncheon. Isn't that the meal list outlined in The Ho...

And I just had giggling fits over the sign at Service Merchandice: THIS BUILDING IS ALARMED! I always wanted to ask if it needed a Valium or a good hug, maybe a cup of tea and some time out. There is also the horrible sign at Ryan's Steak House: HAND CUT HERE DAILY Which I always thought was such a ...

Just got back from going out to The Waffle House for some late night breakfast and I noticed their sign:

Shirt and shoes must be worn to get service.

I wondered I would get kicked out if I told them that my shirt was almost brand new and that my shoes were just a month old.

I actually had to look at that for a few seconds before my brain went into thinking mode. It must be waterlogged.

OMG! What a great idea! The kids were playing D&D last night and turned a cleric into a double hit weapon to take out the evil mage. The cleric had been hit with a debilitating spell by the mage and could barely move out of the way of the next hit so my daughter, who has this razor sharp wit say...

My Local Newspaper has done it again . . .

If you notice my signature quote and its interesting turn of a phrase, it is a direct quote from my local newspaper. Yesterday they did it again, turned a reasonable phrase into something quite silly. Quote, "Police chased a white pickup for 90 minutes Friday through highways, including Highway...

For 13 wonderful years I had a little Mini Dachshund Chihuahua mix. She had all the best characteristics of both breeds and was a companion without comparison. She was a classic black and tan with a face almost like a miniature pincher, shorter legs than a chichi but longer than a doxi, and the most...

Another child raised in the South by a military parent, but even if dad hadn't been military my parents were raised with sir and ma'am and would have raised us that way anyway. It was considered common courtesy. More than once when I have been out with my 19 yr old daughter and she has smiled and sa...

We are found rude because we are wrapped up in ourselves, believe the world revolves around us and can't be bothered to learn a thing about other cultures, customs or languages. Not just Americans, I was living in Spain for a while and overheard a well heeled Brit tourist struggle with making chang...

I’d never heard of a pelmet either, but when I searched for images of a pelmet all the websites came up "uk". So maybe this is one of those Britishisms. All of the pictures that came up were of, what I would call, a valance either soft of solid (cornice). http://www.junelle.co.uk/curtains/...

 Actually I was referring to an awning. I am from Texas and my best friend while I was in the military was from Fall River, Mass (remember Lizzie Borden?). She would pitch fits as if her ear drums were being pierced when I would say AH-ning. I can't even begin to try to recreate her pronunciat...

 My hubby pointed out the first "brew threw" I'd ever seen. The place looked for all the world like a barn with two driveways going through it. And Texas just re-emphasized it's "no open container" law.
