Dear Dr. Goodword,
What happened to "meliphagous"?
"Diabetes mellitus" also shares the Greek root of meliphagous.
According to Wikipedia, "diabetes" is from a Greek word meaning "passing through" or "siphon" for the large amount of urine the victims produce. The term "mellitus" was added in the 17th century because of the sweet taste observed in the urine.
