I think, but you Catholics correct me if needed, the new Catholic Bible is called the New American Translation or something similar. They probably don't use it in Germany though.

About four months ago I checked in a Catholic Church
after a service, because they had a unique sentence
in the readings, which intrigued me.
The translation inside the cover said:
New American Translation..
I have a copy of the New American Bible, paperback, red cover.
Must be the same thing.

Correct, I think. Just don't confuse this with the American Standard Version or the New American Standard Version, both of which are fairly literal translations. The ASV goes back to the early 20th century, and the NASV is a revision from the last twenty years, I believe. The Catholic translation came after Vatican II, and it is from excellent scholarship.

The noun for this word is vulgarity and a vulgar word is a vulgarism.
Have you heard the term vulgarian, meaning one who traffics in perceived vulgarities? I've heard it in a few contexts, but the most memorable was on a television show where a female character was talking to a new acquaintance about art, and said that she was glad he wasn't like that "vulgarian" who was about to take the stage, not knowing that he was the performer.

I've only seen it in print and on television, though. Never heard it in conversation...

Yes, I have an ASV and NASV. This is the one after
Vat2. Good advice, however, don't confuse.

Too many "modern" versions to deal with. I strictly use the King James version.

If the King James Version was good enough for Peter and Paul, it's good enough for me.
