"Selfie" goes global:http://www.google.com/imgres?imgrefurl= ... 3kBXSzZpcM

What seemed like an innocent enough subject for online discussion has suddenly stepped front and center on the international stage. The etiquette of selfies is discussed here by a modern Emily Post: http://edition.cnn.com/2013/12/11/opini ... etiquette/

NO, NO, NO, and NO!!! Obama did NOT take a selfie, and it wasn't at a funeral.

As to the latter, it was a memorial service, at a time when people were dancing about and having a great time in celebration of a life.

As to the former, could someone please explain how one can take a SELFIE when someone else takes the picture? You can pose for a picture with someone else, but that is NOT, by definition, a selfie.

Oxford Dictionaries: a photograph that one has taken of oneself...".

This has been eating at me since the whole "scandal" began. Apologies if my rant has raised others' hackles. Or, dare I say, Sorry.

I do hope I have managed to keep this to the word, and not politics.

It was a selfless act, then.

Remember in the olden days when the French said, "Le Jazz Hot"? I suppose with the language police currently at work in France this term is now verboten, or whatever the word is in French.
For some reason it used to crack me up that the longtime head of France's language police, in charge of keeping France French among many other things, was named Jack Lang.

Slava: I read the Obama selfie report and had similar thoughts. Thanks for expressing them.
