Minster, monastery
Minster has become sort of popular in our part of the country as tacked on to "directional" churches: westminster, northminster, etc. Originally it referred to a monastery church, then to a cathedral or other large church. Monastery shares its derivation, but I don't believe ministry does.

Re: Minster, monastery
I wonder why the cathedral in York, England is called York Minster While the other cathedrals are simply called cathedrals? I have had the privilege of visiting and worshiping in many of the cathedrals of England. When I visited York, the cathedral was closed because there had been a fire from a lightning strike. One of my English associates said that God had struck the Minster with lightning because he was angry that the Bishop of Durham, a veritable unbeliever, had been ordained there. I doubt God would do such a thing.
It is dark at night, but the Sun will come up and then we can see.
