Imago

Postby Grogie » Thu Feb 08, 2007 5:29 am

I saw this interesting word yesterday. It,s '' an idealized concept of a loved one(husband, wife etc, etc) that,s formed early on in one,s life'' While not being a reliable emotional chart to follow, we are stuck with it, and use it to varying degrees throughout our lifetimes. I know this is another somewhat arcane word, but it struck me as being quite interesting.

It seems to have other applications, as well.
In biology, the imago is the last stage of development of an insect, after the last ecdysis of an incomplete metamorphosis, or after emergence from the pupae where the metamorphosis is complete. As this is the only stage that is sexually mature and has functional wings in winged species, the imago is often referred to as the adult stage.

The Latin plural of imago is imagines, and this is the term generally used by entomologists - however, imagos is also acceptable.

And it is also the name of the European Federation of Cinematography.
