So if one cannot find and ideal job, at least one can find a job as an aedile.

BTW Grogie, how did you come accross the word? It seems to be pretty obscure.

Hi Perry. I found it in a regular(print) dictionary. For the life of me I can,t remember which dictionary it was. I think my memory is going!

Well, using the word lookup on AlphaDictionary's home page takes us to OneLook:
Quick definitions (aedile)

(n.) A magistrate in ancient Rome, who had the superintendence of public buildings, highways, shows, etc.; hence, a municipal officer.

(This definition is from the 1913 Webster's Dictionary and may be outdated.)
... and thence to the Good Doctor's favorite, The American Heritage Dictionary:
aedile

SYLLABICATION: ae·dile
PRONUNCIATION: ē' dīl'

NOUN: An elected official of ancient Rome who was responsible for public works and games and who supervised markets, the grain supply, and the water supply. ETYMOLOGY: Latin aedīlis, from aedēs, house.
