This is not related to oleomargarine but also to the Latin ''ollus''. It names any kind of mixture or medley and also a burlesque or vaudeville act.

My mother has often used this word throughout my life. While always understanding what it meant, I thought it rather old fashioned. But she was the boss so whatever Mom said I would just bite my tongue and nod in agreement like the good obedient child that I was for fear she would make liver for dinner if I didn't...
