This comes up rather frequently, most lately in the Anna Nicole Smith brouhaha over the paternity of her son and his inherited wealth. Sorry for the cynicism, but I doubt anyone out there is really concerned about the kid.

I thought the real father (Birkhead), not the last live-in lawyer boyfriend (Stern), had been trying to prove paternity even before she died.

On February 8, 2007, Smith was found unresponsive in room 607 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. According to Seminole Police Chief Charlie Tiger, at 1:38 p.m. (18:38 UTC) Smith's friend and bodyguard, Maurice "Big Moe" Brighthaupt, who was a trained paramedic,[77] called the hotel front desk from her sixth floor room. The front desk in turn called security, who then called 911. At 1:45 p.m. the bodyguard administered CPR before she was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital at 2:10 p.m and pronounced DOA at 2:49 p.m.


On April 10, 2007, a Bahamanian judge ruled Larry Birkhead, a former boyfriend, as the father of Dannielynn. ... He cited that the DNA test results confirmed at 99.99% certainty that Birkhead is the father. Dr. Michael Baird who performed the test, also commented on its accuracy. ... Although Stern will not fight for custody, Anna's mother, Virgie Arthur, plans to battle in court for the right of custody. Birkhead was allowed to take the baby back to the United States, but must return to the Bahamas for a custody hearing in June

So the child was born September 7 and Birkhead filed suite on or about October 3, but Anna Nichole didn't die until the following February, so it doesn't appear to me that he was necessarily in it only for the money. Well, maybe as a way to get Stern out of the way and get back with Smith, but I wouldn't paint him as a grave robber or an orphan-snatcher. But as for Virgie Arthur ...

It would be nice if her kid could grow up with some degree of normalcy, but we all know the Papparzzi will never let her be. Maybe if a sniper opened fire on them once in a while, and then on any of them that snapped photos of the victim ... ah, but we can only dream. Bad, Stargzer! Bad, boy! Bad!

Stargzer limps back to his cage, wishing that Michael Vick could be allowed to play football again, but be taken out and blasted with a Tazer each time he loses a game; a single, fatal electric shock would be too easy on him. There is no justice in this world.
