I may have been called a smart-aleck, but I have none of the above flaws (just plenty of othersSmart aleck is from 1865, perhaps in allusion to Aleck Hoag, notorious pimp, thief, and confidence man in New York City in early 1840s.

"Just the fact, Mame" Apparently Alec wife name was Melinda. I found the reference with your hint, just call me Mr. Clever Dick... I could go on for hours... but I will spare you'z all.
Actually this word does have a deliciously pedestrian history, and since French pimps seem to be in this season this year. (Reference: James Lipton admission to be a pimp while in Paris... who knew, who cares... )
It would make a good word for Bastille Day perhaps. Since we now have a French President who is friendly to the USA agenda of world domination.
