orthopraxy

Postby eberntson » Wed Dec 12, 2007 2:31 pm

I am intrigued by the difference between orthodoxy & orthopraxy. Orthopraxy is "correct action." In a religious sense it is often used to foster religious tolerance, at least in the context I found it used. There seems to be a theological balance between orthodoxy (philosophy and structure) and orthopraxy (providing support for right action).

It also has a medical definition which is using mechanical means to correct deformities. Leg braces, and shoe inserts mostly. I would think a glass eye is not a orthopraxy though.

Correct. That would be a prosthesis.

Good word.
