irascible

Postby eberntson » Thu Jan 10, 2008 1:12 pm

irascible [ir-RASS-uh-bull] (adjective): marked by hot temper and easily provoked anger
Etymology:
1398, from Fr. irascible (12c.), from L.L. irascibilis, from L. irasci "grow angry," from ira "anger" (see ire).
"O bury the hatchet, irascible Red,
For peace is a blessing," the White Man said.
The Savage concurred, and that weapon interred,
With imposing rites, in the White Man's head.
John Lukkus

~~Ambrose Bierce (1842 - 1914), The Devil's Dictionary
EBERNTSON
Fear less, hope more;
eat less, chew more;
whine less, breathe more;
talk less, say more,
and all good things will be yours.

Great word, eberntson.
Etymology:
1398, from Fr. irascible (12c.), from L.L. irascibilis, from L. irasci "grow angry," from ira "anger" (see ire).
Which brings to mind Dies Irae
(properly proounced with righteous, lip-smacking anticipation, like the Penguins did) :wink:
