Adjuvant

A suggestion for word of the day is ADJUVANT. The similarity of etymology between this word and ADJUTANT leads quite a few people to try to correct anyone who uses ADJUVANT in context, however they are separate words.

From Merriam-Webster comes

Etymology: French or Latin; French, from Latin adjuvant-, adjuvans, present participle of adjuvare "to aid".

Function: adjective

1 : serving to aid or contribute : auxiliary

Welcome, nuggies2! I haven't heard that word for a while. Adjuvantsare also mixed with insecticides and other chemicals to make them easier to spray.

This is now a topical word, as a new covid-19 vaccine is coming out that makes use of them.
