Nice word, though all the on-line dictionaries call it archaic. I do like the idea of "ambages," though.

The freedictionary.com calls this plural: Winding ways or indirect proceedings. This made me think of the phrase, "Just don't get lost in the ambages of Congressional procedure."

Most other sites go for the idea of excessively wordy or roundabout, which applies to all politicians and political speech, no?
