inflammable

–adjective 1. capable of being set on fire; combustible; flammable.
2. easily aroused or excited, as to passion or anger; irascible: an inflammable disposition.
–noun 3. something inflammable.
---
Origin:
1595–1605; < ML inflammābilis, equiv. to L inflammā(re) to inflame + -bilis -ble

Apparenltly inflammable is the original word derived from latin, and flammable was invented later causing inflammable to fall into disuse in the 1800s.

There isa grammar discussion from 2005 on this word, but I think it has so many little nuiances that it would make a great Good Word.

Along with its long lost brother, imflammable. I know this was once a word which added to the confusion between flammable and inflammable, which is why many people now use flammable for that which can catch fire and non-flammable for that which can't.
