stenography

Remember this word ? For obvious reasons it seems to be on its way out of the living vocabulary - but perhaps we should remember it as a predecessor to current expressions which use space as a metaphor for time :

It was Katy talking (What ! a fused participle ! How dare he !) about purchasing «bandwidth» for her 188 (sic !) websites that inspired me here - speed writing is called «stenography» which literally means writing narrowly, but over the net, the broader the band, the faster transmission is. Go figure it !...stenography
"shorthand," 1602, from Gk. stenos "narrow" (of unknown origin) + graphos "writing." Stenographer first recorded 1809.
