But those requirements are otiose, because the licensor has no need for the return of a promotional CD, nor the desire to endure the fuss and bother of collecting money for its no return...

Many people, when they get laid off from work and are forced to become otiose. When their attempts to find new gainful employment prove to be otiose, they often feel that their lives have become otiose.
