Okay, I'm reading and snagged another word from 'Little Women', I'll admit, but there are an inordinate number of interesting words in that one! Will you tell me more about 'bijouterie', please? Of course, I am suspecting the French, which is confirmed when I look it up on the internet, but the information is scant and I am a curious gal.

Clever versification, MTC!

I happened to see the Biography Channel's tribute to Liz Taylor the other night and never realized how voracious Richard Burton's appetite was for those rare and pricey gems. Yikes!

Something that struck me about this word when I looked it up is that has been fully Americanized. It may have roots in French, but the accent isn't on the last syllable, as it would be in French. Have we simply changed the syllabification, or is the -terie part a local addition?

Thoughts on the matter?
