dictionary.com gives us this:

adj
1. harshly critical
2. of, involving, or resembling thunder and lightning

As we're having our first spate of thunderstorms of the season here, I thought this was a good word to be able to bandy about. I like the first definition, too.

A pair of related words is fulgurate and fulgurous, darting about like, or being related to, lightning. I was wondering if one might be able to tell their rambunctious children to calm down and stop fulgurating about the house.

"Splendid" choice. There is a radiance of words with this root. To name a few:

circumfulgent
Shining around or about.

fulminant
1. Exploding or detonating.
2. In pathology, occurring suddenly, rapidly, and with great severity or intensity.

effulgence
1. Radiance; brightness.
2. A brilliant radiance.
3. The state of being effulgent; extreme brilliancy; a flood of light; great luster or brightness; splendor.

But consider their dim relation:

fu.lig.i.nous \fyu.-'lij-*-n*s\ aj [LL fuliginosus, fr. L fuligin-, fuligo
soot; akin to L fu]mus smoke
1a: SOOTY
1b: OBSCURE, MURKY
2: having a dark
or dusky color - fu.lig.i.nous.ly av

Proof that the sun also sets.

I most often connect this word with the last above:
sooty, smelly, pollution. I don't know why when there
are so many better definitions.
