Exacinate lends itself to metaphorical extension; to extract the meaning or essence of something, like a proverb. Proverbs are "kernels of wisdom." To interpret a proverb is to extract the kernel of embedded wisdom. For instance, " One swallow does not a summer make" cautions us to avoid jumping to overly-optimistic conclusions based on insufficient evidence. That would be an example of exacination.
