And here is the etymology, if you could call it so.
Zorbing originated in New Zealand as the brainchild of Dwane van der Sluis and Andrew Akers, who invented the necessary device, which they named a "zorb", in 2000.

I guess because the outer ball cushions the passenger and absorbs the impact...?

What a rush, eh? I understand Bungee jumping another 'insane' sport also came from New Zealand.

Not for me, I know I'm mortal and pain lasts so much longer at my age.
