Ethnonym

Postby Slava » Thu Aug 09, 2012 6:14 pm

A new 'nym word for me. It also goes by the very rare ethnicon.

This one means the name of a people or a group.

As in, if you are from a certain city, you are a (fill in the blank).

Moscow - Muscovite
Paris - Parisian
London - Londoner
Glasgow - Glaswegian

I like the ones, like Glasgow, that don't fit a standard pattern. Anyone care to share their favorites?

What do you call someone from Timbuktu, for example?
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.

Yep, bits and pieces are working, but not well.

Presuming that is a reply to my question: the box is still blank.
Did you get the PM I sent earlier? With the email address?

Nope, never saw that one.

A few hours later: yes, I got it and sent you a message at the address you gave.

Thanks for those fun ones, Audiendus. I should have known there would be good ones from the UK.

It looks like you're right about Timbuktu people, too.
