I thought it might be interesting to bring up the topic of topographical.

Why? What do you consider particularly interesting about this word?

Are you referring to topographical maps? (That link is to the "US Topo Quadrangles — Maps for America" site.) I'm not a surveyor but I need to generate one of these once in awhile, or work with sections of one for clients. Topographical maps contain a great deal of detailed information, some of which can be turned on or off for the user's need.

Creating topographical maps was once a laborious task. In my short tenure as a surveyor, I had to do some topographical leg work. One of my associates did his topographical work in head-hunter infested jungles. I labored on the open and arid plains of Texas.

Topographical maps can now be generated using GPS data. In my later tenure as a GPS engineer, I helped obviate my previous work as a surveyor.
