Dord

Ghost word from 1934 Webster's dictionary. Meaning was "Density."

Kinda an unword.

Johnson said lexicographers were harmless drudges. Some drudge working on the 1934 Webster's dictionary got confused. The explanation is that he/she was thinking about the abbreviation for density being D or d, and sort-of accidentally put it in the definition section instead of the abbreviation section. The proofreaders who let it go to press were also drudges.
