Etymology: probably irregular from blow + -i- + -ate
: to orate verbosely and windily
The bloviating Senators (a redundancy, I know, but I did it for emphasis) of the U.S. Senate have recently brought this word to my mind.

for some reason this word reminds me of dead cows, blow (up)+ bovine, they get really puffed up before they explode, and here we are back to hubris, and hamartia....

Thanks, Katy ! By the way, what is the received term for such a group and/or forum as ours ? I have the feeling that it is distinct from a «chat group», although I should be pressed to define that distinction more closely....
