Another with an old use, French for "old soldier" but finding new uses now. Anyone heard it?

I've never heard it, but now that I've looked it up I know how it is being used of late. It's in gamer culture, used of those who are into old war games.

Along those lines, if we pronounce it on the first syllable and in American, GROG-nard, we could say it's referring to old seafaring types.

"That old grognard was at sea for so long, he still hasn't got his land legs back three years later."
