reprieve

Postby William Hupy » Thu Mar 06, 2014 11:04 am

Interesting that this word and reprise have the same root in French of reprendre, as they both connote a taking back. In the former it was taking back to prison, as that meant that the execution was suspended.

And if you don't get a reprieve, the State gets to have its reprisal.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
