Postby eberntson » Sat Nov 01, 2014 4:58 pm

A punishment or torture performed by beating the bottom of the feet with a stick.

Of Spanish origin.

This word appears several times in the Tales of 1001 Arabian Nights.

Well, it would be interesting to find out why a word that comes from a root simply meaning stick came to be a form of torture by beating the soles or the bottom, but how might we be able to make use of it in today's world? Unless one is into BDSM, or works for the CIA, I don't see a use.

Anyone?

Slava: metaphorically. "I am getting ready to retire, work has become a daily bastinado."

I'm sure the history has at least 50 shades of gray.
