petroglyphs

Postby William Hupy » Thu May 14, 2015 8:59 am

These are found worldwide. This word is from Greek "petra" meaning "stone" and "glyphein" meaning "to carve".

So are the stone carvings of the Babylonians and Egyptians petroglyphs too? Or is a crude workmanship implied?

I usually think of cave paintings or the equivalent on outside rock faces. Hieroglyphics are a form of writing, aren't they?
