Unguent
It appears to me that Unguent, ointment and unctuous all share the same Latin root, that of unguentum. Ointment was slightly sidetracked by French and then came back into English with the same meaning. Naturally, there is a PIE predecessor and plenty of cousins, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Taken up and treated here.
