Attempts to establish a Paradise (in the supernatural sense, not the original meaning of a garden) on Earth, whether in the Future or (by returning to) the Past, seem almost inevitably to lead to the opposite. Perhaps we should just try to muddle through, by working to correct the most egregious of horrors we tend to visit upon each other. How about working to eliminate, say, torture and nuclear weapons, for a start ?...

One of the things I did find dumb was the chain, I think it was Home Depot (one of the WalMarts of the hardware store world), that was selling "Holiday Trees." THEY'RE CHRISTMAS TREES FOR PETE'S SAKE, NOT CHANNUKAH BUSHES!

Well Larry, you may not have convinced me, but you certainly seem to have convinced Gov Sonny Perdue of Georgia, which probably weighs more in the cosmic scheme of things....

And the reason why it's called alogo (a negative + logos word) is that it can't speak. Horses are the non-speaking contingent in an army; men, as is well known, talk all the time.

This from Andriotis's Etymological lexicon of modern Greek.

To handle all of us "Christmas Catholics" our local parish church has had to use the auditorium at a local high school for the early Chrismas Eve Mass.

Somehow, I wouldn't doubt that certain segments of the 9th Circuit wouldn't rule that way--I think it's the most over-ruled of all the Federal Circuit Courts of Appeals.

Thanks for the link, Henri; I'll be sending it around. Onions always bring tears to my eyes . . .

I like the designation "Apostasy Appreciation Days" for Christmas and Easter for just that reason...
