Librate

I ran across this word in a crossword puzzle as a definition or synonym of oscillate. I thought at first that it was a mistake and that they had meant for the answer to be vibrate, but upon digging a little deeper I discovered that it is indeed a valid answer. I thought it was odd enough that I should post it...

Nice word ! I get the impression of pans of a balance scale Image (Latin libra, the kind the blind-folded goddess of Justice - whatever happened to her ! - was usually pictured as holding up in one arm) rocking more and more slowly until it finally settles with the pointer on the indicator giving the weight (mass) of whatever it was that had been placed on them. Welcome to the Agora, duggles, and keep posting those interesting words !...

I also found LIBRATE
[Medieval English] the quantity of land with an annual value of £1.

Interesting word, duggles, with a good mass; welcome and keep posting. (The annual value of your contribution to this space already exceeds one pound!)
