Sluggo, I didn't know that you also invent html code. I love it!
Uh, not sure how to ask this but- how do you know when it's half?
This reminds me of a quip my brother made once. I had been in Israel for 23 years at that time (before returning to the States, I was there for 25 years), and had moved there when I was 22. This caused my brother to remark, "I see that you have chosen longevity over symmetry".

Well sir, this is the first city I've moved to that didn't have a debilitating tornado within the first week of my residence. I'm not sure what that means, except that there may be something to that whole "gail of november" business after all...
on second thought, Gail do maintain your distance, Chicago's weather is really awful ALL year long.

Ummmm, thanks for looking out for both of us, Bailey...[/snerk]

I noticed a strange symbol in the weekly forecast: Image
Can anyone identify it?

...
It must be XML, where you roll your own tags. Need a DTD to decode it, I think.

I uploaded mine to webshots then C&Ped the image off of properties when I left-clicked it, the pic of course. It's easy; if you can't get it from my brief explanation, just PM me and I'll explain it more thoroughly. Tonight I had to have someone else show me how to upload and FTP my latest website because I'd forgotten, if you don't use this techie stuff everyday it's hard to remember how a lot of times.

Day after Xmas unexpectedly brought
this to wake up to.......

Still can't get a thumbnail in here

It was a disheartening 54F by this time and dripping to its demise.
Maybe more tomorrow though :P

You call that snow? I sneer at yer photos.

The Christmas Plans were rudely revised when we all woke up to unnecessary drifts o'snow. My brother's community got about 9". It melted enough today that they -- and all their cabin-crazed neighbors - were out bagging post-Xmas bargains on tchotchkies for next year. (The advantages of being the Official Family Heretic is that you are absolved of having to participate in this madness.)

We met for lunch and loot exchange so they could head back home before getting hit with another snow this evening. We went to the Olive Garden, which was, as you all know, a traditional favorite of the Holy Family. (I secretly said my 'grace' to the FSM. arrrrr!)

Simon and Garfunkel wrote a haunting song about the Sounds of Silence. If written today, it would be the Sounds of Snow Shovels.

Hello shovel, my old friend,
I’ve come to wield you once again.
Because a snowdrift softly creeping
Buried my car while I was sleeping.
And the windchill that will give us all chilblains
Still remains…within the sound of snowplows.

I mushed alone down rutted streets,
The sidewalks buried far too deep.
At the lite rail by a street lamp
Commuters shivered in the cold and damp,
When my eyes were stabbed by an SUV’s headlights;
They split the night. And lit the sound of snowplows.

And in the sleeting light I saw
Half-million people, maybe more
With their Starbucks, on their camera phones;
Their Broncos jerseys like so many clones.
Teens sporting flip flops and much too kewl for coats
Their coughing throats…disturbed the sound of snowplows.

“Jerks,” said I, “You can’t see far
With snowdrifts covering your car.
Scrape the glaciers off your wi-in-dows
Before you drive in Metro Denver snows.”
But my words, like silent snowflakes fell
And echoed in the hell…of snowplows.

After one day all cabin bound
The people madly drove around.
And the brake lights flashed a warning
To cars with skis on in the morning.
The news said, “The traffic on I-25 is slowing to a crawl.
Slow down, y’all.
And watch out for the sounds of snowplows."

Wonderful poem Gail. Roger (Sluggo's secret identity), nice photos. My lawn was barely dusted with snow, and nothing on the streets. As a matter of fact, yesterday was sunny and I was kicking myself for believing the forecast for rain, and therefore not cycling to work. (My brother gave me an old mountain bike and after a 30 year hiatus from bicycles I am really getting into it.)

nice photos, Slugger. If you rarely get snow it's a delight, so far we haven't been able to hang on to the little we've got. Snow, while not my favorite thing, does help my poor landscape to 'weather' the harsh low temps of winter. I have some newer plants in my latest garden that need the protection.

The blizz'rd avatar is back! I'm gettin' all misty.
Or as they'ns say around West Virginia, that thar's a Snow 'Tar.
'Bout time!
You call that snow? I sneer at yer photos.
Ain't snow, we know, but as Mark notes it's all we got, and who knows if we get any more on the east side of the Apps while the Rockies, those punk upstarts hog it all these kids today...

'unnecessary drifts'? Say, you truly are a heretic. :P
So share the gift of drift already. Last year's eBay auction, I note, was shipped for four dollars.

Wonderful lyrics there. Is that your work, or Bob Rivers?
(no, it's a compiment)
There's a nice recording project for the studio upstairs. hmm...
