SOME ACRONYMS FOR YOUR AMUSEMENT

DRT - Dead Right There. (Doctors and nurses shorthand acronym for a patient found dead at the scene.)

DRTTTT - Dead Right There, There, There and There. (Nurses and doctors abbreviation, as DRT above, but used for pedestrian-train incidents. This outrageous acronym is an example of the human species' tendency to use humour when dealing with horrific trauma.)

FLKFLP - Funny Looking Kid, Funny Looking Parents

FOBIO - Frequently Outwitted By Inanimate Objects. (Ideal for anyone struggling with one of those ridiculous picnic tables, flat-pack self-assembly furniture, crisis situations caused by errant cars, computers, mobile phones, and the ultimate FOBIO challenge - removing the cellophane from a new CD.)

And if you see this around when visiting Down Under, you'll now know what it means:

GOFER - Genial Old Farts Enjoying Retirement.

GLAM - Greying, Leisured, Affluent, Married

and one just for Tim to use:
PICNIC - Problem In Chair Not In Computer.

FOBIO is brilliant. Very evocotive.

I have FOBIO to the nth, but only with mechanical, or electronic objects, those that just stand there and do nothing, well it depends. I hate assembly of stuff, I can do it, but must rely on the printed directions and then I still have some problems.

The ones I'm most familiar with are military related and thus are either not fit for public use or are contortionistic.

That was in another state, long ago. You'll forgive me if I do not speak further about it; the tic is almost gone...

A language teacher friend drove--intentionally--a Nova, which was good for many laughs. Until she was t-boned off the road by a young thing who had never bothered learned to read traffic signs in her native English.

I heard this one on the radio the other day:
Doesn't Ever Leave The Airport.

A coworker was trying to fly back from Puerto Rico on Eastern many years ago. They were delayed so long that one of the other passengers, who happened to know Frank Borman and had his home number, woke him up at home to complain and have another plane dispatched.

Nice to have connections sometimes ...
