What is the difference between the 'voice of x's conscience' and the 'keeper of x's conscience'?

Judging by what my Google search turn up, phrases like
"Keeper of your/my/his conscience" tend to be third parties.
One of the more famous examples is Gandi who said that
Chakravarthi Rajagopalachari was "the keeper of my conscience"

On the other hand "voice of my conscience," the more common expression, usually refers to something internal to the individual.

I hope these notes help.

Cheers,

My own little inner voice would agree with bnjtokyo.

That would make sense, I saw the sentence 'self-appointed keeper of the village's conscience'.

It's been my experience that quite often the "self-appointed keeper of the village's conscience" is living proof that somewhere some other village is missing their Idiot ...

I don't know if I'd go that far,
Often people will go along and become so corrupt they need a lodestar to help them see the error of their ways.

case in point the crazies in Hollyweird. They seem to have no 'norms' left.

Are they naysaying hedonists?

I tend to agree with you, but stargzr has a good point...unless I agree with the "self-appointed keeper"! :)

But who watches the self-appointed watchers?

I hear voices all the time, most often when I forget my meds. But I don't know if any one of them is the voice of my conscience because they all speak in languages I don't understand, except for maybe a word here and there.

But who watches the self-appointed watchers?
When I took leadership training I found out a real Leader is followed who cares who appointed him/her, and let's hope a true lodestar is not as bad as those they decry.

"Keep watching the skies." (final line from the Thing - original version)
