The persistence of running water is caught well by the quote from "The Covenant". Another beautiful example is "The Song of the Chattahoochee" by Sidney Lanier. If you do not know Lanier, let me introduce him to you. I have been reading and rereading his poems for sixty-five years and I commend him to you as the second best American poet. He follows Emily Dickinson, of course.
