I had a student (and this name is not sad) named Thomas Reynolds Lastname the Eighth (VIII)....Hope he keeps the name going.
If he doesn't, he will be the last of the Lastnames.

I had a student from Indonesia whose name was Djan Meow Liong. At the first of each semester, I called the roll by last name and ask the students to tell me what they wanted to be called (thus avoiding some embarrassing revelations).

When I said "Liong," he said, "I go by my first name."

"And how do you pronounce it?" I asked.

He said, "John."

Not knowing how the name was spelled, the rest of the class laughed.

His name was not "Lastname", I just put that in for
privacy purposes. Just thought I'd let you know.

I always thought "Fuchs" was an odd one too.
We have a manufacturing company with that moniker
here.

Since someone mentioned rappers: There was a producer/record company owner in the 80s and 90s named Aaron Fuchs. Apparently he got tired of comments, because towards the end of his company's run his named appeared in credits as "Fox."
