Data is a Singular

I only recently noticed the line at the bottom of the "Who is Online" section of the Index page here. It says, "This data is based...".

If a language forum is using the singular, does this mean the distinction is now extinct?

The time is wrong, too, but that's not language.

My initial thought is that it's a canned message built in to the Board software, written by a programmer and not a linquist or English grammar teacher.

If so, the Good Doctor should ask for double his money back on this free software.

For many, the correct use of datum and data is an enigmum.

There is no masculine form of enigma/um. The word applies only to females.

Our Kiwi friend used to be Eddie88 on another forum. Why he changed his name is enigmatic. Maybe he's a woman.

There is no such thing as an aenigmum or even enignum. It is a loan word from Greek (and a neuter noun), and the plural is aenigmata. The genitive is aenigmatis.

Happy new year!!

Thanks for your input on this Winblad. I think that pretty much answers any questions on that matter.

Welcome to the group, too. Don't be a stranger.

Thanks very much for your welcome (welcoming) response! This is a really great forum. I spent so much time today looking around. But then I decided I'm entitled to do something that really interests me.
Will be back, certainly!
Thanks again.
