IN PRAISE OF CHRISTMAS

I write to laud the merry feast of Yule
Which brightens up this bleakish time of year
A cause of joy for children freed from school
And moms and dads who love the season’s cheer

I relish the exchange of gifts and cards
The scent of spruce, the hush of falling snow
The hymns composed by ancient monks and bards
United—like some seasonal tableau

The gas-lit scenes described in Dickens' tales
Are shadowlike traditions we still keep
The merchandise at the midwinter sales
Turn creditworthy shoppers into sheep

But when the busy thoroughfares grow calm

And candlesnuffers quench the final light

Kudos to our poetic Agorans! This was much fun to follow. Would that I had even a hint of poetic talent. I might then have been able to contribute.

Happy Holidays to all, and an extra dose of good will to Audiendus and Saparris for their exceptional work here.

Keep up the good work, folks!

As Elvis would have said, "Thankyuh. Thankyuh vurry much."

(After all, it was a Southern collaboration: Southern UK and Southern USA.)
