Enough with the quasi-religious taglines:
The Ten Commandments can't be in a courthouse because posting "Thou Shalt Not Steal," "Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery," and "Thou Shall Not Lie" in a building full of lawyers, judges, and politicians creates a hostile work environment.
We'll re-visit that genre at another time, with a quote from the Book of Woodworkers.

In with one copied from my daughter's anthropology paper, which is an obvious nod to Heinlein:
“There is nothing so strange in a strange land, than the stranger who comes to visit it.”

-- from the film "Cannibal Tours" by Dennis O'Rourke

Sadly, I must commute the term of this tagline:

"Thank you for flying Church of England, cake or death?"
- Eddie Izzard

“I don’t believe my role is to replace the verdict of a jury with my own, unless there are new facts or evidence of which a jury was unaware, or evidence that the trial was somehow unfair.”
- Governor George W. Bush (R) Texas

These quotes are like shooting fish in a barrel. Sigh. Will replace with a campaign slogan: "Make your vote count. Vote twice for Plaid."

I'm retiring this one for now, but reserve the right [and rights to it, I know you guys!] to go back and use it again.

I'm using the new one, for now, just cuz.....

Computers in the future may weigh no more than 1.5 tons." -- Popular Mechanics, forecasting the relentless march of science, 1949
While they didn't narrow it down to a specific weight, the futurists at Popular Mechanics were correct.

I haven't weighed all the "Big Iron" in the data center lately, but if you add in the weight of the mainframe, disk drives, and the StorageTek Tape Silos (I think I lost count at 8 silos), it may even exceed that figure.

Yeah, skinny, they promised us personal helicopters and hovercars, domed houses and built in furniture in the 50's but no mention of cellphone-installed ears or terror attacks.

how odd.

Once again time to swap taglines.

Leaving for retirement and a well-deserved rest:
“There is nothing so strange in a strange land, than the stranger who comes to visit it.”

-- from the film Cannibal Tours by Dennis O'Rourke
Reporting for duty:
"It's always reassuring to find you've made the right enemies."

-- William J. ("Wild Bill") Donovan

Not exactly a snappy answer, but that's the question looked into here...

Now that's a nice pick. It sure is.

I'm reading his biography at the moment. He was quite a character. We were lucky he was there when we needed him. Ditto for his staff.
... [Marine Corps] Colonel [William] Eddy was summoned for a high-level briefing including ... General George Patton. Eddy was an impressive figure as he entered the conference room in his Marine Corps uniform, with five banks of decorations which he had won with the Fighting Fifth Marines during the last war. ... When Patton first saw saw the World War I ribbons on Eddy's chest, two more rows than Patton had, the General grunted: "I don't know who he is, but the son of a bitch has sure been shot at enough."

What a riot! I also liked the Queen's legacy of waves.
