Audio English speech samples from around the world

Postby dsteve54 » Thu Oct 11, 2007 12:31 am

I could not find a reference to the website below on this forum, so I thought I would offer it as an item of general interest.

Among other entries are audios of people around the world reading a designed English paragraph. I found it very interesting, and it was good to have phonetic inventory charts of the various languages.

Though I am a native English speaker, I actually had to concentrate a little to keep up with the person from Boston. That is because I am from the S-L-O-W speaking Midwest, though we might be incrementally faster than people from Alabama or Tennessee.
Known in restaurant circles by quasi-Thai moniker, "That Guy" (e.g. heard in the back.."that guy is here again"; "that guy on/at table 10"; "that guy is going for a sirloin again", etc.)

Thanks for posting this link, steve; that's quite an audio reference.
