Back to work, anders ! But before you go, thanks for the link - the site does indeed look to be most useful and I have therefore bookmarked it ! I myself have found Erik Peterson's On-line Chinese Tools quite handy - among other uses I turn to it when writing Chinese and/or Japanese texts, as I don't have access to IME's here and I find it takes me much less time to retrieve graphs using 拼音 than forcing my way through those available under «Symbols» in Word™....

Yuri, that Ch/Ru site you used is interesting. Please tell me its address!
Here's URL of the dictionary:

Why the Чёрт do they count 0 in Число черт: 0?
Just an error -- БЕС ПОПУТАЛ!

... Your mention of a paper sent to the Technical Committee was like a thunderbolt from the skies. One more mystery I'm going to solve.
A «thunderbolt from the skies» is perhaps painting it a bit thick - but have you solved the mystery ?...

it's a very comic story. I didn't find the word 沦文 (thesis, paper) in my Linguo off-line computer dictionary (a very handy but too laconic one). I found separate characters:沦 - lùn - 'perish' and 文 - wén - 'writing'. 'Perishing writing' was nonsense, and I decided that it was the name of the invited man. But in the invitation letter the name is not mentioned even once! Isn't it mysterious?

Regards.

Somehow, Yuri, I think you'll stand a better chance of success if, insted of looking for a non-existent «沦文», you check the entry for «论文». The former is merely a typo....

If not your sharp eye, M Henri Day, this mystery would remain a mystery.
