Can someone give me the origin of the word ''villa''. I have something in my mind to compare.

I found that the line is οίκος -vicus- villa.

The following is from Merriam-Webster's...

Etymology: Italian, from Latin; akin to Latin vicus village -- more at VICINITY

According to my ancient American Heritage Dictionary that includes a lexicon of PIE roots, villa is derived from "weik-" meaning "clan."
