Coffee everywhere! And I have had to refer to the dictionary five times for this thread
One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life: That word is love. Sophocles (496 BC - 406 BC)

Surely have we all seemed to settle on avatars what truly reflects who we is. Bailey and Skiminem, and meself, all seem appropriate faces, Gzer's got the old telescope out (ahem) and Sunny's is just downright sunny as the day is long, not countin' the winter months. That is all except Gailr, who just shows up on my screen as "X" (bringing to mind the line from the Firesign Theatre single: "this movie rated X the unknown, positively no one admitted").
If one put a milky-cloudy effect on the edges of one's image, would one be considered avatarred and feathered?

Slug, ol man, to think I was concerned that you'd been gone so long, you were just marshalling your thoughts.

Yes, that is a crude portrait of my 4.5" Tasco reflector.

She was doing the same here, but a right-click and selecting "Show picture" revealed her standard (non-Piratical) Vulture headress thusly:

Oooooooookaaaaaaaay--make a liar out of me. Won't be the first time, nor the last. The Vulture god seems to be a bit picky about his portrait.

I don't know about you, but I am not Arthur Balfour. But then there are currently doubts if that is the origin of the phrase.
