Pronunciation of Tintin

Postby bnjtokyo » Wed Jul 11, 2007 1:37 am

I don't know quite where to put this inquiry as there is no sub-forum directed to phonetics, phonology and pronunciation.

I'd like to know how "Tintin" (the name of the famous comic book character) is pronounced in French. I am told it is closer to "tantan" with the "a" as in "father" than to "tintin" with the "i" in "tin." Can anyone help me out?

It is more like "tanta[n]" (the final n is just barely pronounced).

Nasal vowels and silent 'n's — [tɑ̃tɑ̃] in IPA.
