whenever for when

Here in rural Kentucky sometimes you will hear people say "whenever" in place of when most people would say "when." Does anyone else do that?

Whenever do they do that? But seriously, could you give an example so that we can understand the context?

Welcome to the board AP!
We had to get rid of UPI to get you in but that's OK.

I'd like to hear examples too. If you think about it the two are not far apart. Our ancestor German uses wenn in the sense of if or in the event of.

AP, there are all sorts of dissections of certain words and experessions down in the list on this topic- feel free to resurrect any of them with local comparisons whenever you like.

Here in Texas we say "whenever". Never thought much about it.

Examples:

Whenever you're ready fixing your hair, we can leave.
She'll have the money to you whenever she gets paid.
We get flash floods here whenever it rains like that.
I told him whenever he's ready for lunch to let me know.

In Texas we say "whenever" when perhaps "when" would do just as well. "Whenever I get up in the morning, I eat a bowl of grits"

To say "whatever" as a response to someone's expressed opinion is rude in my book.

But you can say, "Julie, whatever possessed you to choose puce paint for your walls?" This is only mildly offensive. If you throw a "bless your heart" in the sentence then all offensiveness will be erased.
